More About Us ...

The Metrolina Model Railroaders is a casual group of  hobbyists, artists and craftsmen who enjoy "playing with trains". We created a HO Scale model of a railroad that could have existed in this part of the Carolinas in the 1950s called the French Broad and Catawba Railroad.

Although the group is a laid-back assortment of railroad hobbyists, the results we produce are precise and exacting to the era and region we model. We don't count rivets nor do we try to adhere to a particular prototype in our creations. But we "do nice work" or so we have been told. Our layout often wins top awards at shows, when being judged by expert model railroad hobbyists.

Our club is an informal group of both active members and those who attend on a "come when you can" basis. Many visitors and friends also contribute their skills and their time when we take the layout to shows.

The club layout is a modular layout in HO that we can exhibit at shows in our area. Our layout presently can be displayed in various configurations from 14' x 18' up to 20' x 40' and it is still growing. This layout lives and travels in a large enclosed trailer. We move modules from the trailer to our meeting location for repairs or modifications, as required. We have recently finished construction on a new 20' city (in three modules) and are finishing a 20' yard (also in three modules) in a member's basement. We have started work on a 16' power plant (in two modules) to replace our existing power plant module. We also have another smaller modular layout that is presently awaiting refurbishing. This smaller layout is destined to become our "play layout" and will be located in our meeting location.
